Rules of the Server

Rules of Gameplay

  1. Absolutely NO BOTTING, MACROING, OR USE OF THIRD-PARTY PROGRAMS to alter or automate the game. There is a zero tolerance policy on this; first offense results in an instant ban.
  2. No killstealing, looting, or otherwise disregard and/or disrespect for your fellow players. You are expected to behave maturely regardless of your age and will be treated as such.
  3. No scamming or the otherwise use of deception with trades and deals.
  4. No account sharing. If you lose something because you gave out your password to someone you have no excuse to complain.
  5. Dead (or bloody) branches are not to be used within any city or any nearby maps, especially those obviously catered for lower level characters. Use them in an isolated place, not in the pubs or anywhere near populated areas.
  6. Guild Rules: All guilds MUST be relevant in an RP sense, and MUST have a post in the forums (under Roleplay - Profiles - Guild) with their name, leader, and purpose as presented to the public. This means you need an RP-acceptable name with an RP-acceptable background to the guild; those deemed unacceptable, and unable to provide good explanation otherwise, will be disbanded and reprimanded. This will be actively enforced by the GM team. Read the full set of rules HERE.
  7. 7. REPORT BUGGED MOBS: people found abusing ’stuck’ or otherwise bugged mobs, or any other glitch in the server, will be severely punished, not limited to a permanent ban for such behavior! Any odd or usual behavior in mobs, classes, or anything ELSE related to the game should be directly reported to the GM Team with NO EXCEPTION.

Rules of IRC

The Basics

  1. EVERYONE who has an account with AeonRO should visit the main IRC chat room from time to time. You can join the IRC by connecting to irc.aeonro.org in mIRC or another chat client, or you can use the Java IRC link in the sidebar. Being in the IRC helps everyone get to know each other. Second, it allows players to more easily get help from other players or from the GM staff. Third, and perhaps most important, many decisions are made based on input from people in the IRC main room. Your presence is beneficial to everyone, yourself most of all.
  2. Be courteous, be kind. This is a general rule for every Aeon channel. At the other end of those sometimes whimsical handles are real people. In text conversations, it is impossible to pick up on the true meaning of what people are saying; since you can’t see or hear the person, all you can use is the text. Understand that text is easily misinterpreted and information scrolls by quickly in forums, so it may not always be easy to catch everything. Have patience with each other and keep conversation light and friendly.
  3. Be respectful. This is a rule for everyone, from non-player first-timers to channel ops. Again, there are actual people in this chat. Everyone has a right to opinion. This does not mean a person has a right to squelch the opinion of another. At the worst, agree to disagree. If this fails, there are provisions below.

Main IRC Chat - #aeon_ro

  • Topic
    1. The chat topic of the main room is fairly loose. It is expected that chatters will keep to proper topics and not introduce violent, lewd, or inappropriate material. Conversation need not focus on game-related topics, but ought not stray into the obscene.
  • Conduct
    1. No spam, no flood, no useless repeating. People have been known to “sing” in chat and other such line-hungry things. If you wish to send such topicless multi-line messages, please keep the number of lines to a very low number. As above, text can scroll by quickly during peak times and people may miss important messages.
    2. Politeness is a must in here. That means no malicious name calling, no personal attacks, nothing which reeks of disrespect toward fellow players. This is tied into…
    3. No public arguments. None of any sort are allowed in the main channel. There may come a time when a small misunderstanding/dispute will occur in the chat channel and resolve itself quickly. No action need be taken in this case. However, any and all extended arguments should take place in other forums, whether it be in Private Message or a separate channel. (create channels by entering /join #desiredchannelname) This includes interpersonal arguments, small group disputes, and even debates regarding server-related matters.
      • In the case of a server-related debate, it is the obligation of the person who proposes the topic to create a channel for all parties interested in discussing the idea to attend.
      • In the case of personal arguments which extend beyond reasonable time or subject matter, participants in the argument will be asked to find somewhere outside the chat channel to continue. If the disputants continue in the normal channel, they risk being kicked and banned from the channel until such time as the parties concerned contact an op in the main channel to declare the argument over and receive re-admission.

Aeon RP Channel - #aeon_rp

  • Topic
    1. Topic here is in-character RP, and nothing else.
  • Conduct
    1. All rules of conduct from the main chat channel apply here.
    2. Consider this channel “ingame,” if you will. RP moves here when a player cannot get ingame but still wants to RP, or if the server is experiencing rare downtime. Sometimes settings in game aren’t flexible enough for a players taste - so they resolve to conduct an RP in text instead.

Aeon Debate Channel - #aeon_debate

  • Topic
    1. Topic here is subject to immediacy. When a debate is opened, topic will be declared. Rules of topic are strictly enforced here, as any server matter debate is being held for an important reason to begin with, and it is in the best interest of all to deal with these matters in an efficent and timely fashion.
  • Conduct
    1. All rules of conduct from the main chat channel apply here.
    2. Rules on spam and flood are strictly enforced. Such messages obscure important information and slow down the debate process. Refrain from any and all unnecessary messages and repeats.
    3. No attempt shall be made by any person to lead the discussion grossly off-topic. Related topics can be introduced, but the purpose of a debate is to handle a particular issue. Please do not turn this channel into an alternative general chat.
    4. Respect and patience are of the utmost importance here. You may or may not like the topic which is being debated, but it is your responsibility to state such in a mature, rational, and patient manner. Everyone is to be heard here, as all opinions are important. However, when your input degenerates to name calling, swearing, or other disrespectful acts, or when an argument starts over something being discussed, you are only hurting the process and are subject to being ejected from the debate.

FAQs

With any community type thing comes many questions. Below you’ll find many of those most commonly asked.

  1. Can I be a GM?
    • The GMs decide who will be a GM. Somewhere during your stay at AeonRO, if you show dedication and your ability to help this server, you will be considered. Asking a GM if you can be a GM is a big “No.” Not only does it show that you are power-hungry, but it annoys the GMs as well. If we think you are a perfect candidate for a GM position, we will let you know. Don’t come to us, we’ll come to you.
  2. The server is down. When will it be up?
    • This is a common question. If the server’s down and a GM is about, the problem is already being addressed. Usually, the server will be up within a few minutes of going down, but at times other circumstances make it much more difficult. Thankfully this is an extremely rare occurrence these days. In either case, please try not to ask more than once, and if you do ask, ask a player first. Asking a GM will only hold them up in their work.
  3. Where can I download the files for AeonRO?
    • The best way to install AeonRO is to use our Full Install, located in the Download sections of the site (which you should see to the left of the website under ‘Download AeonRO’). Even if you have the kRO and Sakray files, we cannot recommend strongly enough that you go with the full install. It usually solves most installation problems people have attempting to merely patch their Sakray and kRO.
  4. How can I play on AeonRO?
    • Unlike some RO servers, AeonRO requires that you submit an application for an account. Your application will be reviewed by the staff, and you will be notified of your approval or denial. If you are rejected, please feel free to visit the IRC and discuss your application with a staff member–reapplication is always an option! The application process is generally easy so don’t sweat it.
  5. What are the rates here?
    • * Drop Rates: 4x (1x for equipment drops, minimum drop rate is 0.20% for all items)
      * Exp Rates: 2x, increased to 4x on Saturdays and Sundays
      * LUK affects drop rate relatively - 1 Luk increases relative odds of drops by 1% (100 Luk would increase the drop rate of a 5% item to 10%)
  6. I found a bug, what do I do?
    • First off, don’t tell any other players, or abuse it! If it’s a simple bug like a client error or an NPC just not working, or if it’s a major bug, like an NPC exploit or the like, PM a GM in IRC or on the forums immediately. These types of bugs can cause severe problems and must be corrected as soon as possible. If you are caught purposely exploiting a bug - depending on the severity of the issue you could be BANNED.
  7. Is botting allowed?
    • For starters, No! Botting breaks gameplay, giving an unfair advantage to botters by allowing them to train their characters and gain items without having to do any of the work. If you are caught botting, you will be instantly banned. Furthermore, asking this question outside of this FAQ will earn you suspicion and GMs will likely watch your actions. Please understand and take heed to this.
  8. Why am I getting errors from standard kRO things?
    • his is usually caused by not properly updating your installations using the patchers that are installed with them. In most situations, running Ragnarok.exe and Sakray.exe and allowing them to patch fully will correct your problem. We suggest doing this at least once or twice a month to keep yourself fully updated. If the problem persists, you can post in the Client Support forum or ask in IRC for further assistance.

      * When all else fails, if you HAVEN’T used the full install in the past, we recommend you do. Our Full Install client tends to clean up most client issues.

      * If you continue to have problems, jump in our IRC channel to get some live assistance

  9. I’m here just to roleplay. Can I have [insert item/class/skill here] just for RP purposes?
    • Yeah, this one made the FAQ list. Frankly, in a perfect world you could, but this world is far from perfect. Truth is, most people choose to RP in a game environment such as RO not only to roleplay but also to enjoy the game itself. Giving out ‘freebies’ like this is unfair to the majority of the players and thus is not done.
  10. I applied. How long until I get a response?
    • We get this a lot. Optimally, your response should come within a day. However, due to real life obligations, the best we can guarantee you is 3 days. Within 3 days you will have a response. Please don’t ask often in IRC, as nagging the GM and RP teams about your application will give a bad impression of your compatibility with the community.
  11. I’ve gotten in trouble. What did I do wrong?
    • Hmm. That’s easy. If you don’t already know what you did wrong, then there’s a good chance that you lied to us when you applied and said you had read and agreed to the Rules of Roleplaying and Rules of AeonRO. Those documents cover almost everything that should or should not be done during your stay here. If something you plan to do isn’t covered by something in them, it’d be a good idea to ask before you do, right? Right. Furthermore, the GM Staff reserves the right to a final decision on all disciplinary matters; as such, problem players will be dealt with at their discretion. Lastly, note that bannings and other severe punishments are team decisions, so if you were banned or had some extreme course of action taken against you, most if not ALL of the staff had a say in it.
  12. Where can I find more information about RO or AeonRO?
    • Excellent question! A list of several very useful websites that cover just about anything you could want to know about RO can be found on our forums. I’m confident that you’ll find what you’re looking for in one of those sites, but if not, don’t be shy about asking someone in IRC or on the forum.
  13. Why can’t I log onto the forums?
    • To log onto the forums, you first need to have your application approved to join the server. You will not be able to access the forums until that time.
  14. I don’t understand Prestige Classes. How do they work?
  15. I’m not really interested in role-play…
    • …. one has to wonder why you’re here if you’re not interested in role-play. However, if you are here to enjoy our custom features, so long as you do not insult or otherwise disturb our RP community, and RP events (as nothing gameplay related would be awarded during them they should not warrant your interest) then there generally should not be a problem. The rules of the server and role-play STILL adhere to you even if you’re not interested in the latter. So heed them well.
