Republic Passes Kelli Detection Bill

Rune-Midgard Stance Waivers

After considerable debate over the ethical and legal implications, the Senate of Schwarzwald Republic has approved their highly conflict-ridden Kelli Detection Bill. The new legislation, slated to become effective immediately, will authorize all military organizations — including local military outposts — to employ detection methods on all suspicious individuals, in order to determine their Kelli heritage. The move, officials report, is to allow greater awareness of whom officers are dealing with when enforcing the law.

“This will not only protect our officers in the field, but also protect the interests of our citizens.” remarked spokesman for one of the Senators.

Currently, both the Schwarzwald Republic and the Kingdom of Rune-Midgard employ detection methods when interviewing new candidates for any military or government position. Such methods are said to include overnight stays within a monitored facility to observe sleep patterns, and voluntary injection of a chemical compound known to inhibit one’s ability to concentrate for extended periods of time.

Arunafelz has yet to follow suit.

Critics argue that the Bill will instead reinforce traditional prejudices against certain races ‘known’ for their ‘criminal tendencies’, by marking all members of the race as threats to the State. Those against the Bill argue that any citizen who has come forward or has contemplated coming forward about their heritage will now be forced back into hiding, for fear of maltreatment from military officials. The Senate, however, feels the Bill will only do more good than harm.

With the Bill’s passage, eyes now turn to the provinces of Rune-Midgard with curiosity as to whether or not King Tristan will enforce a similar law. A spokesman for the Royal Cabinet of Ministers suggested yesterday that the King was taking the recent developments up north into “serious consideration”.

“The King is attentive to both sides of the debate and is currently investigating all possible avenues that the provinces may explore. His Highness feels confident that Rune-Midgard, after careful consideration, will be able to put forward a strategy that both takes into account the interests of all parties while respecting the traditions and moral standards the provinces have enjoyed, to date.”

What that means, we cannot say, but it is unlikely that Rune-Midgard will let the passage of this Bill fall by the wayside. Rather, it is highly suspected that a similar law will be made cannon within the coming weeks.
